Amanda graduated as a veterinary surgeon from Cambridge University in 1998. She undertook further clinical training at the Royal Veterinary College and the University of Pennsylvania and is Board certified in both Internal Medicine and Emergency and Critical Care. She was a Lecturer in Emergency and Critical Care at the RVC from 2003-2008. In September 2008, she took up the post of Clinical Director at Vets Now where she had responsibility for clinical and professional standards and training across 55 emergency clinics and three 24 hour hospitals that see over 120,000 emergency cases per year. In that role she led the development of a range of post graduate training programmes as well as pioneering innovative methods of auditing clinical and professional standards. In Jan 2020 she took up the role of Group Referral Director with IVCEvidensia. As Group Referral Director she oversees the strategy for the development of our referrals business across all our countries - this includes developing the services we offer and importantly our people.

She was an elected member of RCVS Council from 2012-2020 and was President 2018-2019. She was Founding President of the European College of Emergency and Critical Care (2014-2018) and is a Treasurer of the EBVS board. She is currently chair of Trustees for RCVS Knowledge.

Outside of work, Amanda is a busy mum of two with a wide assortment of animals at home that keep her pretty busy. She enjoys walking in the Scottish hills, baking/cooking and travel
