Alyce’s career as a veterinary professional began 30 years ago. Her entire career has been in emergency and critical care/specialty medicine and her experience includes ER & ICU nursing, supervisor roles, practice management and multi-practice leadership.

As CEO and a founding partner of Horizon Veterinary Services, Alyce worked closely with hospital administrative teams and practice owners to establish and maintain healthy, successful practices. Her areas of focus include; developing a vision, mission and core values, creating a culture of respect and appreciation, resolving conflict through conversation, growing EQ within a practice team and building resilience by finding purpose.

Alyce also has extensive experience recruiting emergency clinicians and specialists, creating and enforcing policy and SOPs, establishing budgets, strategic planning and business governance.

Alyce has lectured at state, national and international conferences and spent 20 years consulting with practices across North America. She currently serves on the IVECCS program committee as Co-Coordinator for Leadership, Professional Wellness and Ethics programs. She serves on the VECCS Leadership Committee, the DEI Task Force and she is a VECCS Ambassador. She is also very proud to serve many years as a board member of the VECCS Foundation, now known as VECCS Gives.

Amanda graduated as a veterinary surgeon from Cambridge University in 1998. She undertook further clinical training at the Royal Veterinary College and the University of Pennsylvania and is Board certified in both Internal Medicine and Emergency and Critical Care. She was a Lecturer in Emergency and Critical Care at the RVC from 2003-2008. In September 2008, she took up the post of Clinical Director at Vets Now where she had responsibility for clinical and professional standards and training across 55 emergency clinics and three 24 hour hospitals that see over 120,000 emergency cases per year. In that role she led the development of a range of post graduate training programmes as well as pioneering innovative methods of auditing clinical and professional standards. In Jan 2020 she took up the role of Group Referral Director with IVCEvidensia. As Group Referral Director she oversees the strategy for the development of our referrals business across all our countries - this includes developing the services we offer and importantly our people.

She was an elected member of RCVS Council from 2012-2020 and was President 2018-2019. She was Founding President of the European College of Emergency and Critical Care (2014-2018) and is a Treasurer of the EBVS board. She is currently chair of Trustees for RCVS Knowledge.

Outside of work, Amanda is a busy mum of two with a wide assortment of animals at home that keep her pretty busy. She enjoys walking in the Scottish hills, baking/cooking and travel

Jennifer is a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph.  She completed an internship and an emergency and critical care residency at the Animal Emergency Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 1996. She completed a surgical residency in 2004 studying at several private practices in the USA. Jennifer has been director of emergency and intensive care services at a number of large private referral practices in Canada and the United States. She is currently working as an independent consultant and emergency and critical care specialist. She has published over 50 articles and book chapters, is actively involved in research, and is a member of seven professional veterinary organizations around the world. She is a recipient of the Ira M Zaslow Distinguished Service Award, the highest award the VECCS awards, given to an individual demonstrating extraordinary commitment and exceptional contribution to both the specialty of emergency and critical care and to the VECCS. Jennifer enjoys teaching and is actively involved in training residents as well as lecturing and teaching workshops to nurses and doctors.

Dr. Kerl oversees medical operations at VCA’s network of more than 1,000 small animal veterinary hospitals.

She joined the VCA family in 2017 as regional medical director and then later moved into a combined regional medical director/regional operations director role,prior to her promotion to chief medical officer.

Dr. Kerl received her bachelor’s and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from Auburn University. Later, she earned her master’s in public health and MBA from the University of Missouri.

She has over 25 years of experience as diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, with a specialty in small animal internal medicine. In 2001,she became a diplomate of the American College of Emergency and Critical Care. She is also active in veterinary disaster response as a member of the NationalVeterinary Response Team, and the Missouri Volunteer Veterinary Corps.

A self-proclaimed nerd, Dr. Kerl enjoys choral singing, cooking, traveling and spending time with her partner of 25 years, Elizabeth, and their pets.
