CONTENT DESCRIPTION

Tooth fractures are common in horses and may present as a dental emergency or might be identified as an incidental finding during a routine dental examination.  An international panel of world-renowned equine dentistry specialists will focus their discussions on the following topics:

Management of Incisor & Canine Fractures:

  • Diagnostic Plan and how to best identify exposed pulp in acute and chronic cases
  • Choosing between different endodontic therapies – role of the timeline?
  • Avulsion fractures, mandibular / maxillary fractures with involved incisors / deciduousincisors
  • Selection criteria for reconstruction vs. removal of the separated tissue/tooth

Cheek Tooth Fractures:

  • How to manage the emergency patient
  • Diagnostic work-up
  • Endodontic treatment vs. challenging extraction?
  • How to deal with stand-alone reserve crown fractures or in combination with jaw fracture

Naomi completed her veterinary degree at Ohio State University, USA in 2011 and went on to complete an Equine Internship at Kendall Road Equine Hospital.  She then returned to Ohio State University and for an Equine Ambulatory Internship in 2013.  After her internship Dr. Chiero remained as a staff veterinarian and clinical instructor to senior veterinary students and intern veterinarians in ambulatory practice.  She completed her residency in Equine Dentistry while at Ohio State University performing both primary care and referral dentistry.  She has trained with a dozen other  Equine Dental Diplomates all across the U.S. as well as in Austria and England. She will be sitting her final board certification exam in June 2022.  Naomi is currently an associate veterinarian at Equine Veterinary Dental Services in Newark, Ohio, USA.  In addition to advanced equine dentistry she has a growing interest in dental care in zoo and ruminant species.

Dr Oliver graduated from Uni of Qld in 1993 and is the principle veterinarian and business owner of EVDS which he founded in 2002.

Having grown up around horses, Dr Liyou has a passion for helping owners to help their horses and enjoys all equine vet work – despite focussing on dentistry. Since 2002, Oliver has co-ordinated and hosted equine dentistry training workshops for equine vets from all over the world.

He has authored several scientific papers and lectured on equine dentistry in most states of Australia, at AVA, AEVA and Aust College Science Week Functions, to vets in China, along with writing many articles for horse magazines to raise awareness of welfare in horses

Oliver has co-designed many equine dental instruments including the Porta-Safe-Stock trailer, which has been supplied to vets in all states of Australia. He developed his own brand of dental instruments and launched the EVDS webstore in 2005 to service the need for quality equine vet dentistry tools in Australia and New Zealand.

Oliver loves his work but also loves spending time with family and friends, watching rugby league, playing with his horses, boating and most things outdoors and fun.

Chris has considerable experience in equine dentistry at all levels. He has post-graduate qualifications in internal medicine and surgery and was the first vet in the UK to also qualify as an equine dental technician (EDT) in 2001. Since then Chris has developed a wide referral client base for advanced and surgical equine dental conditions.

Chris teaches, lectures and examines widely on equine dentistry in the UK and worldwide. He is past chairman of the BEVA/BVDA examining committee for EDT exams, past BEVA Council representative for equine dentistry, chairman of the BEVA Dental Working Party for political aspects relating to dentistry – and winner of the coveted Pet Plan Vet of the Year Award for 2011, an achievement that the judges awarded in recognition of Chris’s work in equine dentistry and the beneficial effect on equine welfare.

Chris is dedicated to advancing the science of equine dentistry and is particularly interested in novel restorative and preservative treatments. This has placed Chris at the forefront of equine dentistry worldwide.

Manfred Stoll graduated 1990 from the University Giessen. After a time in the pulmonary lab at Michigan State University 1991, he started his general equine practice Dec. 1991. Since 2001, his equine clinic has been focusing on dentistry. Between 2005 and 2007 he developed a new extraction technique (Transbuccal Screw extraction acc. to Stoll) that was presented at the AAEP Convention in Orlando Dec 2007. He is co-author of the German Textbook, Equine dentistry: “Vogt, Lehrbuch der Zahnheilkunde beim Pferd “. In 2010, he qualified as “Horse dental practitioner acc. IGFP” (International Association for improvement of the masticatory system of the horse). Since 2012, he is a Veterinary Specialist for Equine Dentistry (LTK Hessen) and 2014 his clinic got approved as teaching facility (LTK Hessen) for Equine Dentistry. He became a Diplomate of the European Veterinary Dental College (EVDC equine) and a Fellow member of the Nordic College of Equine Dentistry (NCED) 2018. He lectures at national and international congresses and is involved in dental CE programs. His main focus is endodontic and restorative dental therapy and minimally invasive dental surgery.
