Part of the Equine Computed Tomography (CT) Image Interpretation & Clinical Applications Online Lecture Series
CONTENT DESCRIPTION
Dual-energy CT (DECT) utilizes two distinct X-ray photon energy spectra, enabling the differentiation of materials based on their varying attenuation properties. This discussion-based module explores various clinical applications of DECT in both humans and horses, primarily focusing on musculoskeletal imaging. We will discuss topics such as detecting bone marrow edema, analyzing collagen, quantifying iodine dentifying gout, and reducing metal artifacts.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Torsten Diekhoff is the Executive Senior Physician at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, specializing in musculoskeletal diagnostics and spectral CT. His research focuses on imaging of rheumatic diseases of the axial and peripheral skeleton, applying modern imaging techniques such as Dual-Energy-CT. He holds a BIH Clinical Fellowship and serves as an instructor for the German Society for Musculoskeletal Radiology. Dr. Diekhoff has received several awards for his work and is involved in various professional committees, with numerous publications in his field.
More InfoKatrien Vanderperren graduated with great distinction as a veterinarian from the University of Ghent, Belgium, in 2005. Following her graduation, she started her PhD research in the Department of Veterinary Medical Imaging at Ghent University. In May 2009, she successfully completed her PhD on the possibilities and limitations of imaging the equine fetlock joint using different imaging techniques (radiography, ultrasonography, computed tomography and arthroscopy). Since 2014, she has been a professor in Diagnostic imaging and leads the large animal imaging team at Ghent University. She became a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging in 2020. Her research interests include the added value of Dual-Energy computed tomography in detecting bone marrow edema and soft tissue lesions, as well as clinical research in computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging in horses. Katrien has (co-)authored more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed veterinary journals and is a speaker at national and international conferences and courses.
