Dr. W. Rich Redding was a 1983 graduate of the University of Florida veterinary school. After graduation he moved to Lexington, Kentucky and worked at a large standardbred farm. This was followed by a rotating internship at VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at both equine hospitals in Blacksburg and Leesburg. Dr. Redding then spent two years in private practice in Middleburg, VA specializing in lameness of the performance horse. Large animal residency training in surgery began in 1987 and was completed in 1990 at Iowa State University. For the next 5 years he developed a lameness/ultrasound/surgery consultation practice at 3 racetracks in the Midwest centered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After passing the ACVS examination in 1995 he accepted an academic position developing a sport horse practice at NC State University in Raleigh, NC. He is now been at NC State since then as a Clinical Professor in lameness and orthopedics. Dr. Redding’s background has allowed him to develop an expertise in lameness, diagnostic imaging and orthopedic surgery specific to the performance horse. Moving to N. C. State provided an added bonus to utilize more advanced imaging tools such as nuclear scintigraphy, computed tomography (CAT scan) and most recently MRI to complement his clinical background to evaluate the performance horse.
