Dr. Whitcomb graduated from the University of California, Davis in 1996 and then completed an internship at Las Colinas Veterinary Clinic, an equine referral hospital in Irving, TX before studying injuries in Thoroughbred racehorses at the JD Wheat Orthopedic Research Lab as a post-graduate researcher at UC Davis.  Dr. Whitcomb’s career path was ultimately defined by her fellowship in Large Animal Ultrasound & Cardiology which she completed in 1999 at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center.  Most recently, she returned to the classroom and received her MBA degree at UC Davis in 2013.  Dr. Whitcomb has been faculty at UC Davis since 1999 where she is a Professor within the Large Animal Ultrasound Service.  This service has since trained 10 ultrasound fellows of their own, including 3 with faculty positions at veterinary schools, 4 that obtained radiology or surgery residencies and others that now provide ultrasound consulting services in private practice.  Dr. Whitcomb is a frequent presenter at regional and national veterinary conferences on diverse topics relating to equine ultrasonography.  She draws upon 17 years of teaching experience as a dedicated ultrasonographer to deliver unique presentations that simulate the ultrasound examination.  Dr. Whitcomb has published several papers in peer-reviewed journals with a particular focus on the use of ultrasound to diagnose upper limb lameness in horses.
