American and European Specialist in Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation
Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden
Marie Rhodin, DVM, is a Professor of Anatomy at the Department of Animal Biosciences, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. She graduated in 2003 and earned her PhD in 2008, focusing on horse and rider interaction, particularly the effects of different head and neck positions on the kinematics of the back in riding horses.
Her primary research focus is on objective motion analysis for lameness detection, utilizing techniques such as high-speed cameras, inertial measurement units, and computer vision. To advance objective measurements in lameness examinations, she has investigated the effects of circular movement on movement symmetry in both sound and lame horses, as well as compensatory lameness patterns.
In 2017, she passed the board examination and became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. In 2019, she also achieved diplomate status in the European College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. Her main areas of research include orthopedic diagnostics, orthopedic pain, objective motion analysis in horses, and horse-rider interaction.
