Dr. Marie Holowaychuk is a specialist in small animal emergency and critical care living in Calgary. She travels worldwide to work as a speaker, consultant, and locum. Marie grew up in Edmonton, Alberta and graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004.

She then completed a year-long rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Washington State University, followed by a 3-year small animal emergency and critical care residency at North Carolina State University. After becoming board certified in 2008, she accepted a faculty position at the Ontario Veterinary College, where she was Assistant Professor of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine until 2013.

Dr. Holowaychuk has a vested interest in the health and wellness of veterinary professionals after witnessing colleagues and friends leave the profession due to compassion fatigue or burnout.

Marie is a certified yoga and meditation teacher and has completed several wellness-related training courses including Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Professionals, Mental Health First Aid, and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training. She facilitates Veterinary Wellness Workshops and Retreats for veterinary teams across Canada and the USA. When she is not working, Marie enjoys practicing yoga, running, rollerblading, biking, and hiking in the beautiful Rocky Mountains.
