Kevin has a wide base of experience and has been active within the field for over 15 years. He has worked for first opinion and referral exotic veterinary practices, zoological collections, wildlife hospitals and for commercial clinical pathology laboratories. Kevin is one of only two reptile diploma holders in the UK and is the only person in the UK to be recognised by the European College of Zoological Medicine as a specialist in herpetological medicine.

 

His primary interests include reptile medicine and surgery. Kevin acts as the veterinary liaison officer to the British Chelonia Group, the oldest tortoise charity in the UK.  He advises the Tortoise Protection Group and regularly writes for Practical Reptile Keeping magazine. Kevin has a long history of treating ferrets and was the first veterinarian to report adrenal gland disease and insulinomas in the UK. In addition, he is an advisor to the Ferret Education and Research Trust. Kevin also has a keen interest in avian medicine and surgery and writes a column for Cage and Aviary Birds magazine. He speaks regularly at local and national club and society meetings.

 

Kevin is currently a Senior Lecturer in Exotic Animal Medicine at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh.
