After graduating from Massey University, New Zealand, in 2003 with a Bachelors degree in Veterinary Science (BVSc), Katharyn completed internships in equine medicine and surgery at the University of Sydney (2003) and University of Melbourne (2004-2005), gaining a Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Studies from the University of Sydney. She spent several years in private practice as an associate veterinarian (general mixed and equine practice) between 2006-2007 and 2010-2013. Katharyn completed a residency in large animal internal medicine at Cornell University, USA between 2007-2010 and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Large Animals) in 2010. In April 2013, she started a PhD in equine cardiovascular medicine at the University of Zurich, Switzerland and currently divides her time between working as a senior clinician working in Equine Cardiology, researching the development of arrhythmia for her PhD project and providing an ultrasonography and echocardiography service for preclinical studies using rodent models.
