Having qualified at the University of Cambridge in 1968, John first worked in agricultural and mixed practices in West Wales and Bodmin Moor before practising for 5 years in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. He returned in 1976 to set up the Liphook Practice.  John’s post-graduate qualifications are in orthopaedic surgery and in general equine surgery. He is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons, of which he is a Past President and was awarded an honorary fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2004.  John has lectured worldwide and has published papers in both refereed journals and text books.  His particular interest is in equine surgery and lameness problems.  John has been a member of the Council of the British Equine Veterinary Association and the Veterinary Advisory Committee to the HBLB and is now a member of the Council of the RVC. Since retiring from practice he has been a visiting fellow in equine surgery at the University of Melbourne (Australia) and a visiting professor at the Swedish Veterinary School (Uppsala).
