Dr. Charlie Buchanan grew up in Navasota where he started working for his father, Dr. “T-Bone” Buchanan, at the young age of five. “T-Bone” built Brazos Valley Equine Hospital in 1967. Charlie always knew he would follow in his father’s footsteps and become an equine veterinarian. Charlie graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997 (in Charlie’s words, “eight long and tortured years there”). Upon graduation, Charlie went straight into practice at BVEH and has been a key ingredient for BVEH services ever since. In 2006, Charlie left Navasota to head up BVEH's branch in Stephenville.

Charlie’s main focus is in sports medicine.

In Charlie’s spare time, which is slim to none, he not only plays basketball, but he also coaches his children’s basketball team. Hunting is another activity he likes to pick up when he has time; quail and dove are his favorite. Charlie may be a “horse guy” but don’t let that fool you. He also raises bucking bulls. Among being a very dedicated equine veterinarian and having active hobbies on the side, Charlie’s top priority is his beautiful wife and two lovely children.
