Dr. Caryn Plummer, a native Floridian, graduated with a biology degree from Yale University in 1997. She is a 2002 honors graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. Following veterinary school, she completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine followed by a residency in comparative ophthalmology at the University of Florida. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (2006).
After completing specialty training, Dr. Plummer joined the faculty at the UF College of Veterinary Medicine as an assistant professor in 2006. She is currently a tenured professor at the UF. Her research interests include corneal wound healing, glaucoma and immune-mediated ocular disease. She has lectured extensively both in the USA and abroad on many topics associated with clinical veterinary ophthalmology and animal models of ophthalmic disease, especially glaucoma. She is is a contributing author to the Gelatt’s classic textbook Veterinary Ophthalmology (4rd, 5th and 6th editions) and an associate editor for the 6th edition. She is also a charter member of and currently serves as the secretary/treasurer for the International Equine Ophthalmology Consortium. She currently chairs the Vision for Animals Foundation Glaucoma Consortium.
