Equine practitioners are regularly exposed to various and sometimes contradicting opinions on podiatry and farriery, especially on therapeutic shoeing.  This is exacerbated by the fact that most veterinarians graduate and go into practice with minimal training in farriery and shoeing.  Additionally, imaging of the foot and pastern is an area of equine practice that has undergone considerable development in the last few years.

This webinar series approaches the subject from a veterinary perspective, while aiming to  equip equine practitioners to have meaningful and informed discussions on therapeutic trimming and shoeing with their farriers.

The following topics will be covered by world experts through highly-illustrated lectures:

  • Distal Limb Analgesia – A Review with Tips & Tricks
  • Radiography & Radiology of the Foot & Pastern – A Team Effort to Maximise Success with Therapeutic Farriery
  • Ultrasound of the Foot & Pastern
  • Equine Podiatry – Foot Wound Characteristics, Healing & General Treatment Principles

Andy qualified from the University of Liverpool, UK in 2004. In July 2006 he undertook an eighteen month internship at the Liphook Equine Hospital after which he spent a further six months working as a first opinion equine ambulatory vet for the same practice. In July 2008 he started a residency in equine surgery at the Royal Veterinary College and went on to join the surgical team at the College where he currently works. He became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in February 2012. Andy has published several articles in peer reviewed publications and presented at various national and international meetings. His research interests include digital flexor tendon sheath pathology, mesenchymal stem cell application in superficial digital flexor tendonitis and the role of back pain in poor performance.
