CONTENT DESCRIPTION
Safe, effective sedation and analgesia are cornerstones of equine dentistry and approaches continue to evolve. This panel discussion brings together experienced clinicians and specialists to explore best practices, challenges and developments in achieving optimal analgesia and sedation for different procedures and in different clinical settings. Through interactive debate and sharing case-based insights, including failures as well as successes, the renowned speakers will engage in an open exchange of experiences, practical solutions and new ideas, with audience participation highly encouraged.
Jack Easley received a DVM degree from Tuskegee University in 1976. After completing a Large Animal Internship at Oklahoma State University, he served as an Associate Professor of Surgery at Kansas State University from 1978 to 1980 where he completed an Equine Surgical Residency and received a Masters Degree in Surgery. He was an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, 1980-1982. In 1982, he was certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Equine). He became a diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College as an equine dental specialist in 2015.
For over 40 years, Dr. Easley has lectured extensively on and promoted equine veterinary dentistry throughout the world. He has written hundreds of articles for publication in professional as well as lay equine journals, textbooks, and periodicals. He serves on the editorial review boards for Equine Veterinary Education, Equine Veterinary Journal, and the Veterinary Dental Journal. Dr. Easley is the co-editor and major contributor of 3 editions of the textbooks Equine Dentistry and more recently, Equine Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery (2022).
Dr. Easley resides in Shelbyville, Kentucky where he owns a private practice emphasizing equine dentistry, oral, and maxillofacial surgery. He consults extensively in the areas of dental and maxillofacial surgery and accepts referrals from veterinarians seeking help in these areas.
More InfoDr. Hector is an Assistant Professor of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia at Colorado State University. Her clinical focus is in equine practice, with specific expertise in emergency care, pain management, and equine behavior. Her research includes anesthetic management and pharmacologic intervention in the treatment of endotoxemia, positive reinforcement training in a hospital setting, behavior modifying drugs, anesthetic recovery quality, metabolic responses to trauma and acute pain, improving local anesthetic techniques, and chronic pain therapy.
Henry joined us at the beginning of 2017 from the Langford Vets at the University of Bristol where he has been a Senior Lecturer in Equine Surgery for the last 14 years. He was also Head of Equine Clinical Services until 2015, where he was responsible for teaching soft tissue surgery and dentistry to veterinary undergraduates.
Henry is an RCVS Specialist in Equine Surgery and Dentistry and his particular interests are upper airway surgery, maxillofacial surgery and dentistry. He has published widely in these fields, and lectured and taught at conferences and courses around the world.
Born and educated in Gloucestershire, Henry’s other interests include playing tennis, cycling, skiing, kitesurfing and occasional field sports.
