CONTENT DESCRIPTION

The group of world-leading equine dentists will be debating infundibular caries diagnostics, indications for repair and treatment options, including choice of instrumentation and materials. The following controversial discussion points will be debated via case-presentations:

Case selection criteria

  • What happens to a tooth with infundibular caries over time?
  • What can we evaluate from the occlusal surface?
  • Limitations of diagnostics
  • Insurance implications
  • Age young vs old horses

Technique

  • Choice of instrumentation & materials for restoration of superficial defects and deep infundibular cavities
  • What is the maximum depth for a restoration under visual control?
  • Expected outcomes & how and when to follow-up?

Other considerations

  • What to do with cementum hypoplasia / caries in young horses with deep infundibulae?
  • What to do with cases with existing secondary dentine defects/pulp exposure
  • What to do with cases with iatrogenic pulp exposure during restoration
