Dr. Bertone received her Bachelor of Science degree (1977), DVM degree (1982) and internship (1983) from Cornell University, subsequently completed a combined surgery residency/PhD program (1987) at Colorado State University and joined the surgery faculty at Louisiana State University that same year.

Dr. Bertone became board certified as a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1988 and joined the surgery faculty at The Ohio State University as an equine orthopedic surgeon late in 1989. Dr. Bertone focused her clinical and research efforts in the field of orthopedics and became a full professor in 1997.

Dr Bertone has served as an equine orthopedic surgeon at The Ohio State University Galbreath Equine Center for over 25 years, managing cases and training veterinary students and equine surgery residents.

Dr.Bertone has mentored many PhD and Masters of Science graduate students, surgery residents and research fellows and has developed a reputation for a quality and productive research program and a strong orthopedic elective surgical caseload.

Dr. Bertone has been recognized as one of the top extramurally funded researchers in the College of Veterinary Medicine and has greater than 180 peer reviewed scientific publications. After completing a 1-year sabbatical at the Center for Molecular Orthopedics at Harvard University (2000), Dr. Bertone has served two terms as the Trueman Family Endowed Chair and established the Comparative Orthopedic Molecular Medicine Suite and Applied Laboratories that specializes in regenerative medicine including stem cell and growth factor therapies.

Dr Bertone has retained a clinical Appointment at the Galbreath Equine Center at The Ohio State University where she regularly performs surgery. Dr. Bertone is a member of the The Sports Health and Performance Institute, The Dorothy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute, The Regenerative Medicine and Cell Based Therapy Center, and is an adjunct full professor in the Department of Orthopedics in the College of Medicine.

Dr Bertone became board certified in Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2013. Dr Bertone’s clinical focus is orthopedic surgery and her research focus is in the study of comparative orthopedic medicine, regenerative medicine, and gene therapy for the treatment of cartilage injury and bone repair. Dr. Bertone has been active in veterinary and human orthopedic associations and has been regularly invited to participate in national and international scientific meetings for her expertise in regenerative medicine, orthopedics and cell-based therapies.

Dr. Johnson obtained his DVM from Mississippi State University in 1996. After completion of an internship at the University of Tennessee and a surgical residency at Auburn University, he obtained ACVS board certification in 2001. He has been practicing in Versailles, KY since 2001.

Elizabeth grew up in post-war California. She followed in her father’s footsteps into equine veterinary practice, after completing her BS from UC Davis, a MS and DVM from her beloved Auburn University. She subsequently migrated to Australia, where she practiced veterinary medicine at Adelaide Plains Equine Clinic in Gawler, South Australia, for over 25 years until her retirement in December 2020. She has professional publications on plant toxicity, the treatment of burns in horses, and surgical procedures in horses with colic.

Elizabeth began writing about her experiences as a horse vet and published under Elizabeth Woolsey Herbert's name: Horse Doctor an American Vet’s Life Down Under in 2005 and her father’s letter to his parents during his time in the Army Air Corps. Jacks’ War Letters from an American WWII Navigator in 2015. While veterinary medicine has been her passion, fly fishing, horseback riding, and writing occupy her leisure time. Since her retirement in December 2020, she now writes fictional books about equine veterinarians under the name Elizabeth Woolsey, Horse Doctor Press.

After graduation from the University of Cambridge in 2001, Fran spent 7 years working in the USA at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center undertaking a surgical internship and residency prior to becoming a lecturer in Equine Sports Medicine. Since returning to the UK, Fran has worked in private Equine referral practice and has been based in Newmarket since 2016. Fran is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (since 2007), a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (since 2009), an RCVS specialist in Equine Surgery (since 2010) and became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2016. Fran has special interests in equine orthopaedics and lameness and causes of poor performance in equine athletes

Peter qualified from the University of Cambridge in 1987 and spent four years working in equine practice. He then completed a Residency in Equine Surgery at the Royal Veterinary College in 1994 obtaining the RCVS Certificate in Equine Orthopaedics during this time. Between 1994 -1997 he undertook research at the University of Liverpool in the field of equine osteoarthritis for which he was awarded a PhD in 1997. Peter has worked at the University of Liverpool since 1997 as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer and subsequently was appointed as Chair in Equine Orthopaedics in 2005. In 2003, he was awarded a Wellcome Trust Research Leave Fellowship to undertake research into cartilage repair in conjunction with the University of Manchester. Peter is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and a RCVS Specialist in Equine Surgery.

He performs veterinary duties at Chatsworth Three day event and has recently become the owner of a Welsh Cob for the family to ride.
