Dr. Brad Tanner found his passion for horses at a young age on his family’s farm in Kentucky. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Kentucky in 2001, followed by veterinary school at Auburn University, graduating in 2005.   After graduation Brad completed an ambulatory internship at Rood and Riddle, the following year became an associate and served as the resident veterinarian for Shadwell farm.  Dr. Tanner became a shareholder in the practice in 2012. He is one of very few Board-Certified Veterinary Dentist™ and a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College.

His ambulatory practice is largely focused on dentistry, Thoroughbred reproduction, neonatal/ foal medicine and herd health.  Dr. Tanner has a large referral case load for advanced dentistry and surgical procedures with an interest in sinus disease.  He serves on many committees in organized medicine for the AVMA, AAEP, KAEP and College of Veterinary Dentistry. Dr. Tanner is published in both the areas of reproduction and dentistry and frequently lectures at local, national and international scientific meetings.

He is married with two sons and enjoys spending time outside on their farm in Versailles and raising Thoroughbred foals.  Away from the farm he enjoys coaching youth baseball/ basketball and attending live sporting events-UK sports, horse racing and baseball games.

Lieven Vlaminck graduated from Ghent University in 1993 and started working at the Department of Surgery and Anesthesiology of Large Animals where he was initially assigned the task of bovine surgeon and large animal anesthetist. This created the opportunity to further specialize in all aspects of bovine and equine surgery. In 2007 a PhD research project entitled ‘postextraction molariform tooth drift and alveolar grafting in ponies’ was successfully completed. He became an ECVS certified diplomate in large animal surgery in 2008. In the same year he was promoted assistant professor in large animal surgery at Ghent University which further evolved to associate professor in 2013.

His professional interests are bovine surgery, equine upper respiratory tract surgery and ophthalmology, but a special focus has always been large animal and equine dentistry since the start of its renewed scientific progress in the late 90’s. He became a diplomate in the in 2013 newly established equine track of the European College of Veterinary Dentistry after passing the certifying examination. Since then he holds different positions within this college’s subspecialty. Prof. Vlaminck is responsible for all aspects of ruminant surgery at his department. He conducts research on several equine dental problems (occlusal fissures, endodontic procedures, EOTRH) and New World Camelids dental pathology.

Richard graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2004, following which he spent 6 months in mixed practice before undertaking an 18 month equine internship at Donnington Grove Veterinary Practice in Newbury. He then undertook a residency in equine surgery as well as a Master’s degree and then a PhD at Glasgow University.

Richard obtained his RCVS certificate in orthopaedic surgery in 2009, his ECVS diploma in Large animal surgery in 2010, a Master’s degree in Equine surgery in 2011, his PhD investigating risk factors for injury to Thoroughbred horses during racing in 2013 and his EVDC diploma in equine dentistry in 2018.

Richard enjoys all aspects of equine surgery and has research interests in both surgery and dentistry.

Dr. Baratt graduated from the Colorado State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1981 after obtaining a Master's degree in Pathology. He founded Salem Valley Equine Clinic in 1983, and the equine practice eventually expanded to include companion animals, Salem Valley Veterinary Clinic, in 1992.

He developed a keen interest in dentistry, and is the first veterinarian to obtain Fellowship in the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry (FAVD) in both small animal and equine dentistry. In 2013, Dr. Baratt achieved Diplomate status with the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC), Equine Speciality. In 2016, he achieved Diplomate status with the American Veterinary Dental College, Small Animal.

Dr. Baratt travels extensively to instruct fellow veterinarians and veterinary students in both small animal and equine dentistry with lectures and hand-on wetlabs.
