CONTENT DESCRIPTION

Feline uveitis is commonly encountered in practice and so frequently can be a canary bird for systemic disease. Whilst it may be confined to the globe only, for example in traumatic uveitis, uveitis may be secondary to an infectious, inflammatory or neoplastic focus elsewhere in the body. We have world class speakers for this discussion panel, with expertise in ophthalmology, feline internal medicine, feline oncology and feline infectious diseases.

We will be discussing the clinical signs of feline uveitis, the hurdles for diagnosing cause, and pearls of wisdom for treatment. This evidence-based discussion session will be aimed at the level of an experienced general practitioner, although those with a more advanced interest in ophthalmology will also find it useful.

.

Claudia acts a consultant in ophthalmology at Rossdales Equine Hospital. She graduated from Bristol University in 1995, after which she spent 9 years in general practice in large animal, mixed, and small animal practices. Whilst in first opinion practice she gained the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology and undertook a scholarship at Cambridge University.

In 2004, Claudia joined the Animal Health Trust (AHT) and successfully gained the European Diploma in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 2007. She was head of ophthalmology at the AHT between 2009-2015.

Claudia works with many charities worldwide, assisting with welfare and zoological ophthalmology cases. She has been an active committee member/chair, published several book chapters, lectured both nationally and internationally on veterinary ophthalmology. She was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2018. In March 2017 Claudia joined Langford Vets, part of the University of Bristol, as Head of Ophthalmology.

Graduated from Oklahoma State University and then completed an internship, internal medicine residency, and PhD program in Parasitology at the University of Georgia.  Dr. Lappin is the Kenneth W. Smith Professor in Small Animal Clinical Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University and is the director of the “Center for Companion Animal Studies”.  The Center is housed in the Translational Medicine Institute at CSU.   Dr. Lappin is the chair of the WSAVA One Health Committee. His principal areas of interest are prevention of infectious diseases, the upper respiratory disease complex, infectious causes of fever, infectious causes of diarrhea, and zoonoses.

Dr. Dietrich has been practicing Veterinary Ophthalmology for over 2 decades. Being a graduate from the Veterinary School at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany, she received further specialty training in Veterinary Ophthalmology during externships at the Animal Eye Clinic in La Habra, California and the Animal Health Trust in the U.K. Dr. Dietrich completed her residency program in Veterinary Ophthalmology at the University of Zurich, Switzerland and was one of few individuals board certified in both the American and European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. For the past 20 years she have been working in academic institutions and specialty referral centers in Switzerland, the U.S. and the U.K. and until most recently Senior Lecturer at the Royal Veterinary College.

Cats have always been a personal and professional favorite of hers, based on the uniqueness of the feline eyes and ocular conditions, their fascinating behavior and the special bond they develop with their owners. Offering a cat-only ophthalmology service in the London cat clinic is a very unique opportunity. It will pair in-depth client education and high-quality veterinary specialty care in a cat-friendly environment making this a very special veterinary experience for the cat owner.

Dr. Dietrich lives in Reigate, Surrey with her partner Jonathan and cat “Nero”. She enjoys their allotment and flower gardening, gardening design, cooking and bread baking.
