David qualified from Cambridge Vet School in 1995. He worked in general practice in Yorkshire for 2 years prior to undertaking a 2-year residency and then a PhD at the University of Glasgow. Following this he moved to South Africa as senior medicine clinician in the equine hospital of the University of Pretoria. David subsequently returned to Scotland and worked for Clyde Veterinary Group as head of their equine medicine service. He is currently Professor in equine medicine at the University of Glasgow.

Karen is the Director of Equine Operations (Veterinary and Welfare) at The Donkey Sanctuary where she leads the clinical team in delivery of veterinary care and supports the UK welfare, Europe and Ireland teams to ensure that all donkeys and mules cared for by The Donkey Sanctuary receive a high standard of veterinary care. Karen qualified with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Bristol in 1994 and has a PhD in veterinary pharmacology. She is the author of a wide range of peer-reviewed articles relating to donkey medicine and welfare. Alongside providing veterinary care and advice, Karen leads her team in developing and delivering educational materials globally to professionals, students and owners involved in the care and management of donkeys and mules. Her research interests include welfare assessment, pain assessment and management and an evidence based approach to herd health. She has developed a comprehensive herd health programme that has helped deliver improvements to the health of donkeys and mules in sanctuary care.

Ramiro Toribio is a full professor and chief of the Equine Medicine/Equine Field Service section of the College of Veterinary Medicine, The Ohio State University. He is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). His duties include research, clinical service, teaching, mentoring, outreach, and administration. He leads professional and graduate courses. Dr. Toribio directs research programs in equine endocrinology, equine neonatology, comparative medicine, and molecular biology. He has secured >$5,000,000 in research funds and has >140 publications. He has collaborations with academic institutions (US and abroad), private practices, foundations, and industry. Dr. Toribio has trained residents, interns, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows. He is engaged on continuing education activities.

Dr. Stacy Tinkler is the Head of Veterinary Services at The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland, where she has been working for just over 2 years overseeing the vet team and health of around 1800 donkeys. Prior to her current post, Stacy worked in large animal internal medicine and equine ambulatory practice at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine since 2011. She dedicates part of her life to working equid volunteer veterinary projects through the Equitarian Initiative and has a passion for international veterinary medicine.  She has been participating in various working equid projects in Central and South America for the past 20 years and has worked and volunteered at the American Fondouk in Fes, Morocco. Dr. Tinkler has a particular interest in sustainable veterinary and para-veterinary program development and community education dedicated to working equids and their caregivers in partner communities in Latin America. She loves to be outside, to travel and loves how animals and their welfare unite and bond people from all over the globe.
