CONTENT DESCRIPTION

Non-congenital dental malocclusions are a common finding in equine dentistry practice worldwide. These include abnormalities that have been caused by trauma, maleruption, wave mouth, shear mouth or as a result of dental extractions etc.. The large variance in aetiology and pathology results in numerous possible and at times divergent treatment approaches.  The international panel consisting of 4 world-renowned equine dentistry experts will discuss diagnostics, odontoplasty instrumentation, precautions and development of treatment plans.  There will be plenty of opportunity for attendees to ask questions and make comments as part of the interactive case-discussions.

Dr. Brad Tanner found his passion for horses at a young age on his family’s farm in Kentucky. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Kentucky in 2001, followed by veterinary school at Auburn University, graduating in 2005.   After graduation Brad completed an ambulatory internship at Rood and Riddle, the following year became an associate and served as the resident veterinarian for Shadwell farm.  Dr. Tanner became a shareholder in the practice in 2012. He is one of very few Board-Certified Veterinary Dentist™ and a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College.

His ambulatory practice is largely focused on dentistry, Thoroughbred reproduction, neonatal/ foal medicine and herd health.  Dr. Tanner has a large referral case load for advanced dentistry and surgical procedures with an interest in sinus disease.  He serves on many committees in organized medicine for the AVMA, AAEP, KAEP and College of Veterinary Dentistry. Dr. Tanner is published in both the areas of reproduction and dentistry and frequently lectures at local, national and international scientific meetings.

He is married with two sons and enjoys spending time outside on their farm in Versailles and raising Thoroughbred foals.  Away from the farm he enjoys coaching youth baseball/ basketball and attending live sporting events-UK sports, horse racing and baseball games.

Kylie graduated from the University of Sydney in 1999 with first class honours after completing a research degree focusing on respiratory disease in Thoroughbred racehorses in 1997. In 2004 she was admitted as a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Equine Surgery. Kylie completed her specialist surgery training under Dr Nick Kannegieter and in 2011 was admitted as a fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in equine surgery. She has worked at WestVETS Equine Hospital since early 2012. She enjoys combining her veterinary interest and passion for riding horses by riding trackwork at Eagle Farm 6 days a week before work.

Naomi completed her veterinary degree at Ohio State University, USA in 2011 and went on to complete an Equine Internship at Kendall Road Equine Hospital.  She then returned to Ohio State University and for an Equine Ambulatory Internship in 2013.  After her internship Dr. Chiero remained as a staff veterinarian and clinical instructor to senior veterinary students and intern veterinarians in ambulatory practice.  She completed her residency in Equine Dentistry while at Ohio State University performing both primary care and referral dentistry.  She has trained with a dozen other  Equine Dental Diplomates all across the U.S. as well as in Austria and England. She will be sitting her final board certification exam in June 2022.  Naomi is currently an associate veterinarian at Equine Veterinary Dental Services in Newark, Ohio, USA.  In addition to advanced equine dentistry she has a growing interest in dental care in zoo and ruminant species.

Dr Oliver graduated from Uni of Qld in 1993 and is the principle veterinarian and business owner of EVDS which he founded in 2002.

Having grown up around horses, Dr Liyou has a passion for helping owners to help their horses and enjoys all equine vet work – despite focussing on dentistry. Since 2002, Oliver has co-ordinated and hosted equine dentistry training workshops for equine vets from all over the world.

He has authored several scientific papers and lectured on equine dentistry in most states of Australia, at AVA, AEVA and Aust College Science Week Functions, to vets in China, along with writing many articles for horse magazines to raise awareness of welfare in horses

Oliver has co-designed many equine dental instruments including the Porta-Safe-Stock trailer, which has been supplied to vets in all states of Australia. He developed his own brand of dental instruments and launched the EVDS webstore in 2005 to service the need for quality equine vet dentistry tools in Australia and New Zealand.

Oliver loves his work but also loves spending time with family and friends, watching rugby league, playing with his horses, boating and most things outdoors and fun.
