Alison graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2007 and initially completed a 12 month equine internship in the South of England. She then worked for almost 9 years in a referral practice in Devon where she carried out first opinion equine work as well as leading the anaesthesia and medicine caseloads. She holds the RCVS Advanced Practitioner certificate in Equine Medicine. Alison was appointed as a lecturer in Equine Anaesthesia in 2017 and is currently studying towards the European Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia.

David graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1998. After 8 years in predominantly equine practice, he returned to Liverpool as a clinical anaesthetist in 2006, gained the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia in 2007 and the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia Diploma in 2011 and was subsequently appointed as Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Anaesthesia.

In 2016, David stepped out of his full time clinical and teaching role to undertake a 3 year period of research into the molecular mechanisms involved in tendon disease, within the Department of Musculoskeletal Biology. Returning to clinical duties in 2020, he subsequently became Head of the Large Animal Anaesthesia service.

David is a European and Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Specialist in Equine Anaesthesia and Analgesia and is a member of the ECVAA examination committee. David has a wide range of clinical interests, has conducted several research projects within the Equine Hospital, and published on a range of anaesthesia and critical care subjects, as well as presenting his research, and being invited to speak, at several international conferences. He is also a member of the ‘Vets with Horsepower’ charity, which delivers CPD lectures to equine vets worldwide, raining money for veterinary and human charities in the process.

Dr. John Hubbell is the Chief of Anesthesiology at the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, and holds the title Professor Emeritus of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The College of Veterinary Medicine of The Ohio State University. Dr. Hubbell has been a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia since 1982.

Dr. Hubbell was raised in Lima, Ohio, in a pet and horse owning family. After receiving his DVM from Ohio State in 1977, he served an equine surgery internship at the University of California at Davis then returned to Ohio State as a resident in veterinary anesthesiology. Dr. Hubbell was a faculty member at Ohio State from 1982 until 2015 when he joined Rood and Riddle.

Dr. Hubbell is author of numerous articles on veterinary anesthesia and coauthor of two textbooks: Handbook of Veterinary Anesthesia and Equine Anesthesia Monitoring and Emergency Therapy. Dr. Hubbell is an active member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and speaks frequently at the annual meeting on topics related to anesthesia.

Mark is a European Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia and is an RCVS recognised specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia. 

Mark graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1997 and then spent 2 years working in mixed practice. He returned to the University of Liverpool to complete a Residency in Equine Anaesthesia and Cardiology between 1999-2002 and was then appointed Lecturer in Veterinary Anaesthesia in 2004. He holds the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia and is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthetists. Mark was also awarded a PhD for his thesis ‘Complement and Endotoxin in Equine Colic’ in 2009.

Mark is a member of the editorial consultant board for the 'Equine Veterinary Journal'. Mark is head of the equine anaesthesia service in the equine hospital and is also Hospital Director.

Mark has two horses and a pony at home on his smallholding in North Wales.

Nora graduated from veterinary school at Cornell and was in practice (in upstate NY) before returning to Cornell for an anesthesia residency, which she completed in 1985. She was on faculty at Washington State and Oklahoma State University before going to Texas A & M University in 1989. Nora spent 24-1/2years there before retiring in July 2013. Dr. Matthews has always been a clinical anesthesiologist, spending 50% (or more) time on clinics in the teaching hospital. She became interested in donkeys and mules when she started working with Dr. Tex Taylor at Texas A & M. Tex was a surgeon who raised Mammoth asses and we collaborated on research until his retirement. Nora has published >60 articles in refereed journals and numerous book chapters on anesthesia and analgesia with a sub-specialty in pharmacokinetics and anesthesia of donkeys and mules. She also have a particular interest in monitoring equipment. Dr. Matthews is past president of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia and has also spoken at over 150 veterinary meetings, from local to international. While she has enormously enjoyed her time at universities, Nora is enjoying being a relief anesthesiologist in various clinics and working with residents in practice. In addition, Dr. Matthews fills in as needed at Cornell where I am an adjunct professor.

After graduating as veterinarian in 2002, Stijn Schauvliege completed a 1 year rotating equine internship and an ECVAA residency at Ghent University. During his residency, he performed research on cardiovascular depression in horses. He became Diplomate of the ECVAA in 2009 and defended his PhD in 2010. Since 2010, he has been the head of the Anaesthesia Service at the Dept. of Surgery and Anaesthesia of Domestic Animals, Ghent University. He has served on the Credentials and Education Committee of the ECVAA during 2 years, is the current Vice President of the ECVAA and has been one of the ECVAA representatives in EBVS during several years.

Dr. Clark-Price received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree with high honors from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine after completing his clinical rotations at Cornell University in 2000.

He remained at Cornell and completed a Theriogenology internship and then went to Kansas State University where he completed an Equine Internal Medicine residency and a master’s degree in clinical sciences in 2003. He returned to Cornell University and completed an Anesthesiology residency in 2005.

Dr. Clark-Price achieved Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2005 and Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia in 2008.

Dr. Clark-Price spent a year in a private practice equine referral hospital and then accepted a faculty position at the University of Illinois where he was head of the Anesthesia Service.

Dr. Clark-Price joined Auburn University in 2017 where he is currently an associate professor of Anesthesia in the Department of Clinical Sciences.

His research interests include thermoregulation during anesthesia, aspects of recovery of horses from anesthesia and anesthesia of various exotic animals including amphibians and exotic felids.
