CONTENT DESCRIPTION

Infection is the leading cause of many diseases of equids. Every year, new syndromes are recognized and sometimes associations with novel or re-emerging pathogens are described. Furthermore, with increased national and international movement of horses, certain infectious diseases have become established in new geographic areas.

While the topic of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases is broad and complex, the international panel of world-renowned internists and infectious diseases experts will discuss the following topics:

  • What are the historical, clinical and epidemiological red flags suggesting an emerging infectious disease?
  • What is the diagnostic approach to investigating an emerging infectious disease?
  • What do we know about emerging/re-emerging infectious diseases affecting the respiratory, central nervous and gastrointestinal apparatus?

These and many other aspects of emerging infectious diseases will be discussed and there will be plenty of opportunity for the attendees to ask questions and share their views with the group.
