Originally a graduate of Murdoch University, Australia, Dr. Bryden J. Stanley did her surgery residency and Master’s degree at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Dr. Stanley’s first faculty appointment was at the University of Edinburgh, but she has been at Michigan State University since 1999. Bryden’s clinical interests are all aspects of soft tissue surgery; her research interests are upper respiratory conditions and wound healing. Current studies include: laryngeal paralysis, the Norwich terrier and brachycephalic upper airway, NPWT, amnion and honey-based products. She publishes frequently, has received many teaching awards and lectures widely at a national and international level.

Davina qualified from Cambridge in 1989 and 3 years in mixed and then small animal practice before deciding to specialise in Small Animal Surgery. She returned to Cambridge and was awarded a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Training Scholarship. She was awarded a PhD in epidermal stem cell biology in 1997, and stayed on to complete a residency in Small Animal Surgery and later a Lectureship position at the Queen’s Veterinary School Hospital, Cambridge.

Davina became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2000 and achieved the RCVS Diploma in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery in 2003. In 2006 she established a small animal referral hospital in Winchester which is now a large multi disciplinary hospital with significant clinical research output and trains Specialists in several disciplines. During this time she established internship and residency training programmes and developed an interest in mentoring and business management and development.

Davina has also been an examiner for the ECVS Diploma as well as a member of the ECVS Board of Regents, President and Chair of the ECVS. She has also been involved in undergraduate and post graduate veterinary and veterinary nursing teaching and examinations.

She has experience and expertise in a wide range of soft tissue surgery, but her particular interests are in the fields of oncologic and reconstructive surgery, wound management, clinical auditing and veterinary leadership and mentoring.

VetPDDr. Elizabeth (Betsy) Swanson is an Associate Professor of Small Animal Surgery at the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Her clinical focus is soft tissue surgery with special interests in wound healing, minimally invasive surgery, endourology, wound infection, and chronic biofilm infections. A native of the Chicago area, she attended Iowa State University for both undergraduate and veterinary school. She earned her DVM degree in 2001. After graduation, she completed a rotating internship at the Tierärztliche Hochschule Hannover (University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover) in Germany before practicing for 5 years as an associate veterinarian at a small animal hospital in Arlington Heights, IL. In 2007, she returned to specialty practice and completed surgical internships at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston and at the University of Missouri. She completed her residency and master’s degree at Purdue University in 2013 and became ACVS board certified in Small Animal Surgery in February 2014. She has been on the faculty at Mississippi State University since 2013. She is an active member of the ACVS, the Society of Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery, the Veterinary Endoscopy Society, and the Veterinary Interventional Radiology/Interventional Endoscopy Society.

Dr. Swanson lives in Starkville, MS, with her 3 dogs. She holds a degree in vocal performance and is a classically trained soprano. She is active in the community chorus and sits on the Starkville-MSU Symphony Association Board of Directors.

Kathleen Ham is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida.

Besides her clinical and research interests, she loves teaching and medical education is a passion.
