European Veterinary Specialist in Anaesthesia and Analgesia

John qualified with Honours from Liverpool in 1970 and was awarded the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia in 1974. He is a Past President of the Association of Veterinary Anaesthetists and a Foundation Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia.  He was President of the BSAVA from 1998-99. During his time in general practice he received the BSAVA Melton Award for Meritorious Contributions to Small Animal Practice. He also received the Francis Hogg Prize from the RCVS for work towards improving standards of anaesthesia in general practice. He was awarded Fellowship of the RCVS in 2017 for Meritorious Contributions to Clinical Practice in the field of anaesthesia.

Having worked as an anaesthetist at both Liverpool and Cambridge Vet Schools, he spent 25 years in general practice before retiring as a partner. He then joined the Veterinary Defence Society as a Claims Consultant and is now a Claims Advisor. He currently acts as an independent consultant in all aspects of veterinary anaesthesia, and is working part time as an equine anaesthetist at Hird & Partners, Halifax.
